ITP Header Project
For this project, I had the exciting opportunity to design the top header that would be incorporated into all of the websites for the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at Tisch School of Arts, NYU. As a program that focuses on the intersection of art and technology, I wanted to create a design that reflected this unique blend.

Project Description:
As a designer, I had the opportunity to work on a project for the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at Tisch School of Arts, NYU. The project was to design the top header for all of the websites for ITP. The goal of the project was to create a design that reflected the program's unique blend of art and technology.
The header was added to the websites to provide shortcuts to the four different programs offered at the department: ITP, IMA, Low Res, and ITP Camp. Through the design of the header, I aimed to make it easier for visitors to navigate the website and find information about each of the programs.
Overall, this project allowed me to showcase my design skills while working on a project that aligned with my interest in technology and the arts.
Design Considerations:
For the header design, we made several design choices to create a clean and modern look that reflected the program's focus on cutting-edge technology and innovative design. We considered two options for the header: a rectangular shape and a flat long pentagon. After careful consideration, we decided to go with the rectangular shape as it would fit better on ITP's websites and provide better interaction for users.
After selecting the rectangular shape, we used the Gotham Book font at size 22 for the text, with a white (#FFFFFF) color to ensure legibility. The background color was set to a dark gray (#323232) to create a bold and professional contrast with the white text. For the drop-down menu, we used a light blue (#82B8D9) background to add visual interest and keep the design cohesive, while the text color was set to the same dark gray (#323232) as the header background to maintain consistency throughout the website. These design choices were aimed at making the website visually appealing, easy to navigate, and reflective of the program's focus on innovative technology and design. Additionally, the word "Interactive" was incorporated in the header as a common name for all the programs offered in the department. The final header looked like this:
Here also some of the mobile header explorations we tried:
Key Challenges:
Here are some of the key challenges we faced while creating the header:
Creating a header that would be consistent across all of the different websites for ITP, including individual sites for each student, faculty member, and course
Ensuring the header dimensions and proportions were appropriate for all the different web pages
Balancing the aesthetic and functional requirements of the header design
Ensuring the header was easily recognizable and conveyed the unique blend of art and technology that characterizes ITP
Incorporating the word "interactive" as a common header name for all the programs in the department
Ensuring the header was accessible and usable on different devices and screen sizes
Ensuring the header worked well with different content management systems and website platforms used by the different websites in the department
Outcome:
I am proud of the final outcome of the project and thrilled to see the header as a part of ITP's branding across all of their digital platforms. The final design is simple, modern, and consistent with the department's art and technology focus. Incorporating the interactive tag in the header provided a common head name for all the programs in the department. The drop-down menu makes it easy to access different programs in the department. I am happy that I was able to successfully combine my design skills with technology and create a solution that met the requirements. This project allowed me to improve my skills in design and user experience, and I am looking forward to more opportunities like this in the future.
